There are no prerequisites for this training. Being a registered fitness leader, yoga/pilates teacher or having any type of dance background is an asset but by no means necessary. All downDAWG Yoga® course participants need is a passion and desire to learn an inspiring, new way to get people onto a yoga mat. All necessary teaching techniques will be explained, reviewed and practiced throughout the 2 days with a friendly, knowledgeable master trainer.

What should I bring to my DDY Training?

  • Yoga mat
  • Water bottle
  • Snacks and lunch
  • Pen/Pencil
  • Comfortable layered clothing/change of clothes

Is there a practical or written exam?

There is no written exam however upon completion of the course, all downDAWG Yoga® participants are asked to teach 4 karma classes. downDAWG Yoga® is very much about giving back to our communities. These classes can be done at any studio, community centre, school, women’s shelter, etc. All teachers have to do is organize the space(s), teach 4 – 1 hour classes, fill out the Karma Class form given at the training, and return to trainings@downdawgyoga.com. Teaching karma classes is not only a great way to give back but to also practice your downDAWG Yoga® techniques in preparation of teaching your own regular classes. There is no practical either however, participants are expected to bring enthusiasm and energy to the training. Your master trainer will provide each participant with feedback and support through the 2 days. No participant is expected to be a downDAWG master teacher when they leave the training. All we ask is that each participant bring their best self, a willingness to learn and ready for some serious fun!

downDAWG Yoga Teacher Training Testimonials

“Being a fitness instructor with very little background in yoga, I was quite apprehensive about taking this course; I was worried whether I would be prepared enough to teach this format afterwards. However, once I met Amy all my reservations went away. She is professional, organized, encouraging and a wealth of information. The lesson plan she taught was easy to understand and apply. I came away feeling confident and equipped with enough tools and information to make my first lesson plan. I love the downDAWG PARTY principle and I have been turned into a ‘believer’. I now intend to make downDAWG yoga an integral part of my teaching format.”

“I was thoroughly impressed with Amy’s ability to not only merge the music with the poses but also with her charming approach to explaining the motivation behind the concept and her willingness to welcome all walks of life into her workshop and onto the mat.”

“Amy is an expert in her field, and has an incredible knack for balancing learning in a fun yet challenging format. Taking workshops with Amy have been inspiring and fun-filled learning experiences for me, both as a teacher, and as a student. Her fitness/yoga classes are extremely well led, she is an instructor who makes every student feel included, accepted and acknowledged. She is a true leader, always conducting safe and effective group sessions with tons of interaction and fun.”
